General Revision Problems

Ok, just something i noticed...

There are 4 units in total for the GCSE course. In the exam we get 2 questions on the sub-units of each unit. So if there are 3 sub-units per unit (with the exception of unit 4), does this mean we only need to revise 2 of the sub units and at least one will come up in the exam? For example: Unit one has the sub units Plate tectonics, rivers and coasts. 2 questions in the exam, we get to chose 1. So lets say i only revised plate tectonics and coasts and not rivers, if rivers does come up, i will be able to not answer the question and chose the one which is about tectonics or coasts. We are saved.

It's probily a good idea to revise everything though...

Hi Phil. Don't worry - posts don't appear straight away until I have moderated them - I will talk in class about the forum next week and if we can get everyone to log in via their Digital brain account I can hopefully set it up so posts will appear straight away.

Regarding your question - Units 1 and 2 are indeed more straightforward as there are fewer topics although I would never go down the route of suggesting dont revise all topics as remember the skills paper may still be based around a theme - for example - say you only revised coasts and plate tectonics - you could be caught out if the skills had a physical theme around rivers and drainage basins. That is not to say that you might revise two particularly well with the hope that they will come up - but you do need to have gone through everything. Both Units 3 and Units 4 are too diverse to be sure which topics would come up. Does that make sense? We will talk more about it next week.

Thanks for posting on the forum - I'm hoping we can encourage more people to and that this can become really valuable - particularly when you are not in school and need help / advice.

Mr C.

What are the hot topics that you said are more likely to come up as they havent been in the papers for a few years? I know Mt St Helens is one but what are the others

Sorry for delay in replying - I have been away for a few days - I gave out an orange sheet with details on of things that you should perhaps pay special attention to. I will scan it and attach it later today for you. Please remember though everything needs revising carefully as we can't be sure what will come up - these are things that haven't come up for a while and are worth paying special attention to.

TOPIC GUESSES

Attached is a copy of the orange sheet that I gave out with topics that haven't been on the paper for a while. Remember this is a 'best guess' exercise and whilst perhaps making sure you know these really well - you must revise EVERYTHING carefully - we do not know what we will be on the paper until after you!!! (i.e. we don't get to see the paper until you have done it!!) Mr C.
