The
study of place is an important part of geography. In order to help us
locate places at a variety of scales we need to be able to make good use
of maps. In your introductory unit you made use of globes and atlases to
locate places on a global scale. There are many different types of maps,
but In this unit you will be taught how to read and interpret the
information given on an OS map. OS maps provide us with more than just
details of the location of places, they can also tell us what the relief
of the land is like and the physical features that are present. Each of
you will be given your own OS map of the St Ives / Huntingdon area donated
by the Ordnance Survey; this unit will help ensure that you develop the
skills to be able to use it.
