St Ives in the 1960s

Census Data     Key Developments    Map of the Town in 1961    Graphs showing developments

Population of St Ives by 1961: 4,082

Throughout the 1950s there was a rise in the numbers of dwellings and households reflecting the rise in population. The working population remained lower than the number of available jobs, resulting in a low level of commuting and little need for a car. St ives indicated better living conditions amongst its population since 1951 as the number of people per room decreased.
Population growth resulted in infrastructure improvements, residential development and increased recreational services.
